It’s a Well Deserved Crappy Mood I Am In…

November 26, 2010 by barb

sand coming out of clinitron bed

I just sat down to tell you all about my crappy day and I coughed. It happened so fast I forgot to cover my mouth. I just coughed a loogie all over my computer screen. Not kidding! Maybe I shouldn't have shared that....Last night as we were supposed to sit down to enjoy the turkey for the second attempt (the first was unsuccessful do to the bleeding turkey that greeted us out of the oven) we hear an ominous beep. Remember the $60,000 bed? It was beeping----AGAIN----for the fourth time in less than 2 weeks. And I do mean RIGHT when we were finally sitting down! When it beeps it shuts down and you have to call for service. I picked up the phone dreading that I would be ruining the sweet older gentleman who has to come out everytime I call no matter what the time or day. I didn't have the heart to make him come out last night so Carter slept on the couch until the am.This morning out servicemen came. They were here for 5 hours. Essentially ruining any plans we had for the day but it was worth it if this bed was going to stop beeping. Off they finally went and we let the bed warm up. At 7 we got Carter all ready to go get back in the bed (now 24 hours out of it) and watch a movie. He ...

Toy Story Themed Room | Decorating Project For Special Needs Kids Update

November 15, 2010 by barb

custom toy story wall badge

Back to the Toy Story themed room project. SORRY! I know I promised you all a room update this weekend. The time just slipped away...OK, so without further ado here is the part 2 of the Toy Story themed room. There will absolutely be more parts because I am just getting rolling here! Here is a picture of the infamous $60,000.00 bed that prompted this redecoration. It is a Clinitron Air Fluidized hospital bed that is essential for Carter right now. It is gosh awful ugly but working like a charm. Next to it is what I have done to make it more kid friendly and less hospital like. I added the headboard which is actually a folded down pop up tent in the shape of a rocket and some simple Toy Story bedding from Target. It is supposed to be all fluffy like that. When you lay on it you get the feeling of being in a warm jacuzzi. It feels wonderful. Carter hates it because it feels bubbly all the time. Kids, I swear...Next I added a sheriffs badge which I had custom done to match the toy story themed room super cheap on eBay and we hung parachute men from the ceiling (idea from this Toy Story YouTube) Still to come... Giant Etch A Sketch wall calendar Pictures of all the glow in ...

A Toast Is In Order…

dog print memory plaque

Identifying mostly with our Irish ancestry, we would like to raise our glasses and hearts to the best Chardonnay of our time! Our 13 year old white lab will be missed terribly by the grownups, the boys and dogs. Baxter, the cat, probably not so much.So goodbye our sweetheart. You filled our home and hearts with many licks and kisses. You were there to be a walking buddy and our protector from fierce squirrels and fox. You knew when we just needed a place to rest our hand and think about life and when the boys needed a playmate. You knew your grandmother role to Nala was important in shaping her behaviors. You showed her how to be a loving part of a family, be close when needed, and to spring into activity when times called for it.You made me feel safe when Bob traveled as I knew your super-hearing would alert me should anything go wrong at night. We were lucky to have you be in our lives and we will always hold a place in our hearts and home for you. Carter painted your plaque from the vet and we strung it together with your tags and a pretty pink ribbon that is just perfect for you. We have your paw-print hanging right over your spot where I can still sense you hanging around with ...

A Pink Frosting Birthday

February 26, 2010 by barb

A Pink Frosting Birthday We really lucked out with the weather that day.   When the rain began, I worried it may ruin our backyard birthday party.  Our daughter Stella and friends were celebrating her third birthday, and she was quite ready for cake.  Soon the sun burst out and a brilliant rainbow arched above.  Parents pulled out cameras and snapped away.  The rain dried up as fast as it came.  Cake eating could commence!Stella, the birthday girl, was proudly wearing her favorite lacy, pink Barbie dress and couldn’t have been more excited to notice she matched the Barbie cake I had so painstakingly crafted that morning. These kinds of baking projects always look easier than they are.  The inverted 8 cup measuring glass produced a gorgeous skirt-shaped cake.  Unfortunately, Barbie only sank up to her thighs in the soft white cake mound.  It turned out to be easier to make another cake than to cut off Barbie’s legs.  I know, because my husband and I tried!  Needless to say, wire cutters, pliers and a steak knife weren’t up to the task of rendering a shorter Barbie.  I then hastily prepared a small cake to place on top of the first cake.  It was soon trimmed to size and set into ...

A Bit About Me…

I truly love the wonderful chaos of motherhood, but as my kids grew, I started craving a different kind of pace and a sense of calm I couldn't quite find.

Moving to the coast, which is my happy place, really changed how I live the day to day. Now, I just try to bring more calm into our days, even though they're still pretty busy.

It's not about making life perfect. It's just finding some balance and little bits of peace in the middle of the happy hustle, letting the salt air work its magic on the chaos.

Knock, Knock! Anyone home?

I no longer participate in PR campaigns of any type. I consider this blog to be in retirement but here for anyone who would like to read. I started this journey in 1998 with a company I named “Chaotic Communications”. I am so happy to have lost that chaotic feeling. Today I have rebranded that life and work to simply “Indigo Ink“. You can click that link to find my latest projects.
