Hey all. I know oily people love to share shots of their oils but often times the pictures are so cluttered or the bottles so blurred the intent gets lost. I am going to share some simple things you can use at home to help with that and then I will show you all how I have always done it and you can choose which technique works best for you to start taking great oily photos. DIY: Use White Space I am a huge lover of simple photos with lots of white space. What's the simpliest way to start? A poster board or white board (I personally don't like dealing with the glare off a white board but lots of people use it).The Rule of Thirds The poster board is going to be your photo canvas and the chair you are going to stand on and shoot down on the photo so make sure it is sturdy! Now, imagine your poster board has a grid similar to the one below and arrange your items into 1/3 of the canvas. you don't have to be exactly within 1/3 but try your bestYou could arrange these anyway you like but you are attempting to create plenty of space for text which you will add in whatever app you most prefer. For me that is PicMonkey. DIY Correct Shadows or Add More ...
How To Take Pinteresting Photos
I'm often asked (and very flattered) when people ask me what equipment I am using to take my DIY shots. The truth is, I don't use anything fancy at all. Just some simple techniques I have learned throughout the years and my trusty Samsung Note 3 phone. Yup, that's right...I don't even own a "real" camera. Here are some Pinterest photo tips to get you started. Pinterest Photo Tip #1: Know Your Home Which windows get the most natural light? At what time of day. I have two places I take shots, in my living room on the floor in the afternoon under a wall of windows or in the kitchen next to the sink window in the morning. Anywhere else casts too many shadows or won't let me see the details on things like oil bottle labels. To test it, take some small objects like oil bottles or even green army men and shoot around your house. You will start to see how the shadows play at different times in natural light. Don't be afraid to get down on the floor...as you will see shortly, no one will ever know. Pinterest Photo Tip #2: It's All About the Props I am constantly on the lookout for Pinteresting Props. I stalk the Target $1 spot which is full of great things like Chevron contact paper, ...

Investing In Your Blogging Career #blissdom At HOME
Through the years, I have tried to write posts that help new bloggers reach their goals. This is a hard business to break into and few bloggers truly make a living at it.....well, a living that includes more than Tide coupons and free movies. But I would say for most 'mom bloggers' the goal isn't to make a full time salary- we do it for more personal reasons. One of those being, we find our bliss in it.Last month I was able to go to the Blissdom Conference in Nashville. The level of talent among the speakers there was amazing. But I couldn't be everywhere at all times and there were plenty of sessions I missed, most regrettably the Photography Track with Me Ra Koh. Thankfully, as a Blissdom Community Leader I was given the gift of a membership to Blissdom at Home so now I can take my time and work through all of the sessions at my own pace. Blissdom at Home is just like being there. All the sessions were taped and you can watch the videos of the presentations, listen to the audio (I fell asleep last night listening to Shoot Like a Woman session) and have all the handouts and slideshows as if you were sitting there. This year Blissdom at Home is trickling the information in ...
Blog Security For WordPress
*I don't know what is up with this formatting! It is spaced and bulleted correctly on my end but it is a mess published. GRRRR. I will look into it after more coffee*I wrote this a bit ago and was just going to pass it on to friends who need to increase their blog security but I have seen so many hacked wordpress blogs lately that I hope by posting it I am able to help someone else remove a blog virus and protect themselves from going through this in the first place. These steps apply to self hosted wordpress blogs. If you have been attacked then you should ideally get go through each step systematically. If you have not, it is still in your best interest to take action on as many of the preventative measures as possible.BACK UP USING THE EXPORT FUNCTION OF YOUR WP ADMIN BEFORE STARTING. IT IS ALSO A GOOD IDEA TO USE FTP TO BACKUP YOUR CUSTOM THEME FILES!!!Make sure you have the most current ftp download version on your computer. I like and trust Smart FTP. As of writing this the most current version is 4.0. It is a paid program. It initially costs around $60. It is worth it. Login to cpanel (at the host level) and change the password. Make it easy you are ...
