Its Been a Minute…

January 2, 2025 by barb

Hey there, welcome back. You may have noticed I stopped blogging in 2020. Well, I stopped a lot of things. Life sure threw us through a loop or 20, huh? A lot has changed in my life since that last post. But I am finally finding peace out of the muck and moving on with a beautiful life. And I am crafting and cooking and creating again in my happy place. I'm not quite up for full on blogging or vlogging but I thought I'd dip my toe back in by sharing what I am up to on my Facebook page. So, hop on over and I'll post my new stuff with very simple directions on how I did it. Let's start there and see how this goes. I've missed you... https://www.facebook.com/craftysideofessentialoils/ ...

Preparing For the SAT

January 23, 2018 by barb

Prepare for the SAT

A few weeks ago I talked about the advantages of taking the SAT. Now that you have made the decision to sign your student up, let’s talk about the best way to start preparing for the SAT.   How should my student prepare for the SAT? Your student should be at ease with the new SAT as it focuses more on what they do in class every day. The obscure SAT vocabulary that we, as parents, grew up with are gone! And, there isn’t a penalty for guessing wrong, meaning they should take that chance and guess because they won’t lose points. The content of the test is more familiar and straightforward.   Should I hire a private tutor to do test preparation activities? There is no need! Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy is 100% free and personalized for each student. The College Board (the makers of the SAT) teamed up with Khan Academy created an online study platform with thousands of practice questions with instant feedback, video lessons, practice tests, study tips, and more! A recent study shows that students who practice for 20 hours on Khan Academy gained an average of 115 points from the PSAT/NMSQT to SAT compared to those students who did not use ...

How to Fold a Towel into a Bunny Rabbit

April 15, 2014 by barb

How to fold a towel into a rabbit

I have always loved the little towel animal creations you find in your room during cruises. On our recent trip on Royal Caribbeans Allure of the Seas I attended a class on how to fold towel animals. I grabbed some quick video of the towel folding class so that I wouldn't forget. Here is a snippet of the class that teaches how to fold a towel into a bunny rabbit. I thought this would be adorable for Easter this Sunday. For an even cuter look, put some sun glasses on your towel rabbit!   I know the video is shot at sort of a weird angle but the one thing you need to know is that the big towel starts off being rolled in opposite decorations and meet in the middle to create the two separate "tubes". Then he folds those in half towards each other, pulling the corners to somewhat fold it out of itself. Does that make sense? You can see him do it really well when the kid struggles. If this one is difficult for you, I personally happen to think this bunny is adorable and has great directions. Did you have fun? OK, do me a favor and pin the image below so that you can teach your friends how to fold a towel into a bunny rabbit and make them a hero this Easter too. ...

Ghirardelli Chocolate Peppermint Bark Snowflakes

December 13, 2013 by barb

chocolate peppermint snowflake bark collage

After my last post mocking the people of Pinterest  that produce these gorgeous things no mom can ever live up to, I am a bit embarrassed to post my latest project: Ghirardelli Chocolate Peppermint Bark Snowflakes. Last year I fell in love with Peppermint Bark Snowflakes that I saw on Pinterest. I became a little obsessed. The problem with these is that you cannot make them without this specific mold (affiliate link) Well, you can make them in other shapes or in a pan and break them up but let's face it, you are looking at these because they are simple and make you look like a genius. And that my friend, is all in the mold. I purchased my mold in November last year and got the first one by New Years. I turned around and bought a few more and they arrived by Valentines Day. *sigh* You may be out of luck for this year but it is cheap enough to try and put away until next like I did. OK, are you ready for this crazy complicated recipe to making you look like a genius? Ghirardelli Chocolate Peppermint Bark Snowflakes Step 1: Go to the store and buy Ghirardelli Chocolate Wafers. I bought these bulk bags at Sam's Club for $7.50 a piece. You need both Dark and White Chocolate. ...

A Bit About Me…

I truly love the wonderful chaos of motherhood, but as my kids grew, I started craving a different kind of pace and a sense of calm I couldn't quite find.

Moving to the coast, which is my happy place, really changed how I live the day to day. Now, I just try to bring more calm into our days, even though they're still pretty busy.

It's not about making life perfect. It's just finding some balance and little bits of peace in the middle of the happy hustle, letting the salt air work its magic on the chaos.

Knock, Knock! Anyone home?

I no longer participate in PR campaigns of any type. I consider this blog to be in retirement but here for anyone who would like to read. I started this journey in 1998 with a company I named “Chaotic Communications”. I am so happy to have lost that chaotic feeling. Today I have rebranded that life and work to simply “Indigo Ink“. You can click that link to find my latest projects.
