How To Organize Your Measuring Cups and Spoons : DIY Kitchen Organization Hack

June 4, 2017 by barb

how to organize your measuring cups and spoons

The past few months we have been doing a major kitchen over-haul and I love, love, love the way it is turning out. Combine the kitchen redo with my massive love-hate relationship with the KonMari method of organizing that I adopted last fall and I have been very busy. Yes, KonMari is the crazy method of basically throwing everything away that doesn't "spark joy".  It comes from the book the Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and let me tell you, the process is most definitely life changing. All of these things lead me to today's solution for how to organize your measuring cups and spoons. First, let me tell you what DIDN'T "spark joy" for me. THIS DRAWER: So when it was time to empty out and decide what to do with it I went back to my pinterest board of home ideas and was inspired by a measurement conversion chart created by the blogger at Infarrantly Creative. I tried to figure out how to organize your measuring cups and spoons with a much taller, skinnier pine cabinet door and this is what I came up with: The first thing I did was gather the supplies for my project: *This post contains Amazon Affiliate links Chalkboard Contact Paper red paint 3 paint ...

Peppermint Mocha Latte Lip Balm

January 24, 2017 by barb

peppermint mocha latte lip balm

I was needing a new flavor of lip balm when my friend Jillian started chatting on Facebook about how she was infusing her shea butter with coffee. What a great idea. Jillian's tastes are a little different than mine when it comes to lip balm ingredients though so I started playing around with how I could do this using my go-to ingredients and what I came up with is this amazing Peppermint Mocha Latte Lip Balm inspired by her original post. It tastes just like your local coffee shop with a lot less calories!   Ingredients for Peppermint Mocha Latte Lip Balm *this post contains affiliate links. 1 cup raw cocoa butter 4 tbsps organic course ground coffee (I used some my son had just brought back from Costa Rica :) ) 2 TBSP Fractionated Coconut Oil (this is the liquid kind) 1 heaping TBSP beeswax pellets (buying pellets is much easier than grating) Lip Balm containers - you can do tubes or tins (this recipe makes 5 1/2 ounce tins) Small crockpot for infusing Cheescloth for straining the coffee grounds Young Living Peppermint Essential Oil (get a GREAT deal on this and 10 other oils through the link) Directions for Peppermint Mocha Latte Lip ...

Disney Cruise Door Decoration Ideas

January 13, 2017 by barb

Need some Disney Cruise Door Decorations? Here is where to buy them or make them

More than on any other cruise line, Disney Cruisers LOVE to decorate their doors. It's a real part of the Disney Cruise planning process and people go all out. Are you getting ready for your first Disney Cruise? These Disney Cruise door decoration ideas will have you sailing in style in no time. *this post contains affiliate links All of the below photos were taken in November of 2016 on a Disney Merrytime Cruise on the Wonder so that is why you will see holiday themed doors mixed in. There are several ways people make these decorations. Most often people use their Cricut  or Silhoutte Machines and follow patterns similar to the ones found in this thread on Disboards. They laminate them and then use heavy duty magnets to make them stick to the door. Per Disney rules, "You are welcome to place magnetic signs on your stateroom door. Though, please note that Concierge staterooms on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy have wooden doors. You may not affix items to your stateroom doors using tape or any adhesive, including removable gel adhesives, as this can damage the doors’ finish." There are fines for damaging the doors. The second most common way, and what I did to save ...

DIY Lavender Oatmeal Soap

August 8, 2016 by barb

This DIY lavender oatmeal soap is so simple to make and smells heavenly.

This weekend I had a Make and Take craft party at my house. That is where you have friends over and make simple crafts and have a good time. This DIY Lavender Oatmeal Soap was one of the crafts I came up with that was a huge hit. Here is how it is done. DIY Lavender Oatmeal Soap This post contains affiliate links 1 Square Silicone Mold 2-1 ounce pre-cut goats milk soap base or here is one not pre-scored but with less chemicals. 2 tsp oatmeal (I used Bob's Red Mill Rolled Oats) 1 tsp lavender buds (you will have a lot left over if you buy this 1 lb bag. It seemed like the best deal to me) 5-8 drops Lavender Essential Oil (Buy your Young Living Premium Starter Kit from me and save $25) Melt 2 ounces of soap base in pyrex container on 50% power for 30 seconds in the microwave. Add remaining ingredients in the order above. Pour into silicone mold and let cool. Pop out when cool and hard.  The above makes one bar of soap so multiply as necessary to fill your molds. Some of the ladies at the party used Peppermint Essential Oil instead of Lavender and those came out lovely as well. Play with it. ...

Mickey Mouse Hands With Finger Lights

July 15, 2016 by barb

These Mickey Mouse light up hands with finger lights are so easy to make. Perfect for Disney parties and Fish Extender gifts.

I am getting ready for an upcoming cruise on the Disney Fantasy. We are going to participate in a cool gift exchange program called Fish Extenders. The program is called a Fish Extender because each room on a Disney Cruise ship has a fish decoration outside the door. Someone decided it would make a great place to hang a bag and "secret Santa" type gift people. The idea caught on and Fish Extenders are now a Disney Cruise cult phenomena. People spend a lot of time, money and effort participating in the Fish Extender on their cruise and you can find adorable Fish Extender gift ideas all over Pinterest. I've been working hard on our entries into this fun game and I came up with these super cool Mickey Mouse hands with finger lights. This is how I made them.   Materials Needed: The following list and directions contains affiliate links. Cricut Machine Mickey Mouse hand graphic to import into your Cricut Design Space app Tombow Liquid Glue Zots large glue dots Black 12*12 light cardstock (so you can cut out 4 at a time) White 12*12 light cardstock Finger lights (you need 4 per person) Step 1: Open up your Cricut Design Space app and create a two ...

A Bit About Me…

I truly love the wonderful chaos of motherhood, but as my kids grew, I started craving a different kind of pace and a sense of calm I couldn't quite find.

Moving to the coast, which is my happy place, really changed how I live the day to day. Now, I just try to bring more calm into our days, even though they're still pretty busy.

It's not about making life perfect. It's just finding some balance and little bits of peace in the middle of the happy hustle, letting the salt air work its magic on the chaos.

Knock, Knock! Anyone home?

I no longer participate in PR campaigns of any type. I consider this blog to be in retirement but here for anyone who would like to read. I started this journey in 1998 with a company I named “Chaotic Communications”. I am so happy to have lost that chaotic feeling. Today I have rebranded that life and work to simply “Indigo Ink“. You can click that link to find my latest projects.
