Camping at Snow Mountain Ranch

August 18, 2013 by barb

Summer flowers at snow mountain ranch in the Rocky Mountain

This summer was sort of lame in that we didn't get to travel too much due to Carter healing from the surgery he had in May. That is OK. We still had a great summer with tons of family time AND we still were able to go on our annual trip camping at Snow Mountain Ranch.I love this camping trip. Each year we go with 9-10 families to Snow Mountain Ranch right outside of Winter Park, Colorado. Of course, we stay in a lodge, Indian Peaks to be exact, in a wheelchair accessible room. What? It's camping! There is no TV for goodness sake. We have to bring our iPad's and stream our home cable apps over their wi-fi just to watch Iron Chef! That's as primitive as I get people. What's great about camping at Snow Mountain Ranch though is that our friends that do choose to rough it in a tent have that option in the Hopi Campground area, or you can rent a yurt, or a cabin. Really, there are a ton of options for where to lay your head at night so it works out perfectly for a large group of diverse families. But I love staying at Indian Peaks because right outside our room is this: To the right of that is a huge playground for the kids. During the day, all the families ...

Dallas Fort Worth Itinerary | I Left My Heart In Texas

January 4, 2013 by barb

Dallas Fort Worth Itinerary Photo Collage

Last November, Connor and I took off for a fabulous 3 day weekend for a Dallas Fort Worth itinerary. I wanted to wait and tell y'all about it because I had such a wonderful time that I didn't want this story to get lost in the holiday noise. If you have yet to visit the Dallas/Fort Worth area I hope that as you are planning your 2013 adventures, a trip to this area of TX lands on your map after this post. Fortunately a lot of friends attended this same trip with us, so for some of the details I will link you over to their posts. Our trip started off at the Omni in Dallas for the Family Travel Conference. I was really impressed with all the cool little features in the Omni rooms. During the conference, Connor snuck off down the street to the Old Red Museum. He loved it. We visited the Dallas Zoo one night for dinner. The food was lovely and we got some cool closeups of the elephants and the penguins. But the real star of the that trip was actually the Galleria Mall where Connor had a ball playing like a little kid. While we loved Dallas, Fort Worth is really the area that stole our heart. Really, we have met with plenty of CVB's (Convention and Visitors Bureaus) in our ...

Is a Disney Cruise Right for Your Special Needs Family?

April 15, 2012 by barb

sand wheelchairs on Disneys Castaway Cay Island

Before I left for the media preview Fantasy Cruise last month, I did some price comparison. While my husband, oldest and I have all cruised multiple times, I have yet to take our youngest. And I feel really badly about that. But to be honest with both the wheelchair and autism hurdles to overcome with him, I just have never been quite sure how he would do. Since he is such a Disney fan I always thought that his first cruise would probably work best on a Disney ship. Every time I went to book one though two things stopped me: the price and the fact that they always seemed sold out of the itineraries we wanted.Disney cruises aren't cheap. Comparing the cost between two fictitious similar itineraries to Mexico, Princess Cruises were close to $3000 less than the Disney counterpart & 3 days longer.  ;Which is the point where I would take my hand off the 'book' button and walk away, dazed and confused to exactly why I thought that sailing on a Disney ship was going to be so much better.I'll be honest. I posed this question to several friends that had cruised Disney before. They all assured me that once I was on board I would see why they are almost always booked and ...

Tips For Making #Blissdom Blissful

February 8, 2012 by barb

In a few short weeks women from all over the Blogosphere will descend on Nashville, TN for the 4th annual Blissdom Conference. I've had a long and storied history with this conference in that every year I have planned to attend, and every year I have had to cancel. Last year, literally the day before. Being a mom always comes ahead of getting your #bliss on, right?Super excited to have a chance to finally attend, I will be there as a Travel Niche Community Leader.Which leads me to my post today...While I will be new to Blissdom I am certainly not new to travel or blog conferences. And when I travel alone, I tend to leave my brain at home. I am super organized when my family travels, but when it is just me, my chaos flag totally fly's!SO, here are some tips to avoid some of the situations that have either happened to me, or an unfortunate blogging friend as you get ready for #blissdom!Stop worrying about what you are going to wear. No one is going to care. I promise. They are more worried about if they look OK. Worry instead about your luggage! All the outfit planning in the world isn't going to help if your bags get lost. My suggestion is to bring a carry on ...

A Bit About Me…

I mostly pretend to be a Denver based blogger these days but the reality is closer to a busy mom of two incredible young adults. I run freelance social media campaigns for large and small companies in my free time.

Here I write about crafts, recipes, travel, special needs, social media, tech, family life and anything else that strikes my fancy. I am a bit of squirrel and you never know what you may find here from day to day. Hint: it somehow always seems to tie in my love for essential oils.
